Plaque to local explosives expert and marksman

Our plaque on his former home at ‘Ferns Hollow’ on Station Road, Ilkeston marks the birthplace of a famous son of Ilkeston, Lieutenant Colonel Brian Duncan Shaw MM BSc PhD DSC (Hon).

A renowned marksman and soldier, he later became a lecturer at a Nottingham University and became internationally known through his highly amusing lectures on explosions which he carried out well into his 80’s .
